Maasai Mara
10 days in the Maasai Mara—an adventure I had been looking forward to for a long time. From the moment I departed until my return, everything was perfectly organized and truly an unforgettable experience. The first few days were necessary to leave everyday life behind and adjust to the new environment and the focus on photography. The travel group, consisting of myself, five other participants, and two professional photographers, created a fantastic atmosphere and kept the mood light and enjoyable throughout.
We stayed in a fantastic bush camp that offered every comfort one could wish for. Breakfast in the bush was a highlight—everything was thoughtfully set up by the camp staff, often under the shade of a tree. We wanted for nothing: muesli, coffee, avocado toast—these were 10 breakfasts like no other! Each morning, we were gently woken up with warm water brought to our tents to freshen up. Even at 4:30 a.m., before the first game drive started, we could already order coffee or tee. It truly felt like a pampering experience in the most extraordinary setting.
Lunch and dinner were served back at the camp, where the service and quality of the meals left nothing to be desired. The nights were thrilling: sometimes buffaloes came very close, and one night, an elephant loudly grazed between our tents. We were right in the middle of it all, and that’s what made the adventure so perfect.
Whether it was lions, giraffes, or elephants, every encounter offered unique photographic opportunities. Watching predators was especially fascinating. On three occasions, we observed lions, cheetahs, and even a leopard feeding on their prey. Surprisingly, witnessing this didn’t affect me as much as seeing a hunt unfold. The saddest moment was watching a family of warthogs, one member missing after a hunt, lingering as if waiting for the lost one to return. Moments like these highlight how harsh and relentless nature can be.
This trip was more than just a successful introduction to the wilderness of Africa for me, and it will remain a cherished memory forever.
